Being cheated on is an awful ordeal, and how you handle your relationship at that point has a big part to play in whether your relationship will recover or not.

It can evoke so many emotions, like insecurities, low self-esteem, distrust, feeling of worthlessness even as far as making you question your appearance and yourself as a person

Finding out that you were cheated on hits you like a brick and different people handle these issues differently.

Acknowledge How You Feel.

One of the first things you want to do is to accept how you feel about the situation at this point you don’t hold on to any emotions this can affect your mental health.

You will feel all sorts of emotions which can range from shock, turmoil, fear, pain even depression. All these emotions are validated. It can take time to accept the fact that your partner cheated.

Don’t be too hard on yourself when you feel this way. Also don’t expect the feelings of betrayal or mistrust to go away easily even if you want to forgive your partner and work on your relationship.

Don’t blame yourself

Remember that it is not your fault they cheated on you. That was a choice they made by themselves.

People make various choices for a whole lot of reasons and your partner may probably explain the reason behind their choice to you but whatever that may be you are not to be blamed for their actions.

Repenting this to yourself makes it easier to deal with what happened. ‘You are not at fault.

Take Time Out

Even if you want to work on your relationship with your partner. You still need a take time for yourself, this is very essential to your healing process. Take good care of yourself, eat well, and get enough rest.

This will give you room to decompress and accumulate your thoughts. Release all the emotions and resentment you feel towards them, this would put you in a better mind-frame to determine if you want to stay in the relationship or walk away.

Forgive When You Are Ready.

Don’t feel compelled to forgive them just because they apologize. Forgiveness should come when you are ready to let go and move on completely.

True forgiveness and healing take time, it’s not something that happens immediately.

Your partner should know that they are not in the position to dictate when the healing happens, be the one to make that decision.

Explain to your partner that you are still hurting and you need time to get over what transpired. It okay for you to take time in forgiving them. This should come on your terms.

Reach Out to Friends and Family for Support.

Dealing with cheating is not simple and it requires a certain level of emotional support. Talk to someone that understands what you are going through, it could be a family member, friend, or even a therapist if need be.

Having a support group to care, love and show you the affections you deserve will speed up your healing process and help you make better judgments.

Cheating is one of the more tough challenges any relationship can face, and it necessary doesn’t mean it’s the end for that relationship. You can try to repair what you had with them.

Trying to rebuild your relationship with them doesn’t make you a weak person, it only means your relationship is worth fighting for. Recreate that trust again if you have to, rekindle your love for one another, and connect with your partner.
