The following actions are required to complete Istikhara for marriage:
- Do ablution (wudu) and two voluntary rakahs of prayer (nafl).
- Recite the Istikhara dua (supplication) for marriage, which goes as follows: “Allahumma inni astakhiruka bi ilmika wa astaqdiruka bi qudratika wa as’aluka min fadlika al-‘azim fa innaka taqdiru walaa aqdiru wa ta’lamu walaa a’lamu wa anta ‘allamul-ghuyub. Allahumma in kunta ta’lamu anna hadha-l-amra khayrun li fi dini wa ma’ashi wa ‘aqibati amri (or ‘ajili amri wa’ajilihi) faqdirhu li wa yassirhu li thumma barik li fihi, wa in kunta ta’lamu anna hadha-lamra sharrun li fi dini wa ma’ashi wa ‘aqibati amri (or fi’ajili amri wa ajilihi) fasrifhu anni wasrifni’anhu waqdir liyal-khayra haithu kana thumma radhini bihi.”
Translation:
“O Allah, I seek Your counsel by Your knowledge and by Your power I seek strength, and I ask You from Your immense favour, for verily You are able while I am not, and certainly You know while I do not, and You are the Knower of the unseen.
O Allah, if You know this affair is good for me in my religion, my livelihood, and the result of my affairs, then ordain it for me and make it easy for me, then bless me in it.
And if You know this affair to be ill for me towards my religion, my livelihood and the result of my affairs, then turn it away from me, and turn me away from it, and grant me the power to do good whatever it may be, and cause me to be content with it.”
3. Say the dua seven times before concluding with “Ameen.”
4. After you’ve finished the dua, give attention to your feelings and ideas regarding your choice. Pay attention to any indications or emotions pointing to Allah’s will.
It’s crucial to remember that Istikhara is not a secret formula that can instantly provide you with an answer.
It is a method of asking Allah for guidance, and the response may take the form of an emotion, a dream, or a sequence of happenings that take place over time.
Istikhara dua for marriage is a potent instrument that can aid Muslims in seeking Allah’s direction before making a significant decision. Conducting it sincerely and with faith in Allah’s knowledge and direction is crucial.
