A study involving more than 70,000 participants revealed a link between the consumption of dairy products and acne. The study says there is an increased likelihood of acne in individuals between the ages of puberty to adulthood after consuming dairy products.

Also, foods high in sugar aggravate your skin and contribute to acne. It also reduces the rate of skin protein glycation because it lowers your blood sugar and improves insulin sensitivity.

When insulin is high, your hormones receive a cue to produce more sebum. Sebum is an oily substance that clogs your pores and causes acne.

These findings and others suggest intermittent fasting, which increases insulin sensitivity, may play a role in reducing blackheads and pimples.

How to embark on intermittent fasting

According to Healthline, intermittent fasting devotees claim that aside from helping with weight loss, it also improves metabolic health and may extend life span.

There are varieties of fasting

1. 16/8 diet: This is one of the most popular styles of fasting. It involves limiting consumption of foods and calorie-containing beverages to a set window of eight hours daily and abstaining from food for the remaining 16 hours.

This method is as simple as not eating anything after supper and skipping breakfast. For instance, if you had dinner around 7 or 8 pm, you don’t eat until noon the next day, and you have achieved 16 hours of fasting.

This is easy for those who skip breakfast. You can take liquid, like water, coffee, and other zero-calorie beverages during the fast, which will reduce the feeling of hunger.

Ensure to take in healthy foods during the noon, and avoid processed foods. And foods with an excessive number of calories.

2. The 5.2 diet/Fast diet: Here you typically eat 5 days a week and restrict your calorie intake to 500-600 for two days a week.

3. Eat Stop Eat: It means fasting for eating solid foods once a day/ healthy beverages are allowed during the fast but nothing beyond that. after taking dinner or lunch today, you don’t consume anything solid until the next dinner or lunch, this means that you have observed a 24-hour fast. And it is done once or twice per week.

4. Spontaneous diet: Here there isn’t any guideline to follow. You skip meals probably because of your busy schedule, or maybe you don’t have the appetite. Ensure that during the non-fasting period, you can make healthy meals.

5. The warrior Diet: This involves eating raw fruits and vegetables in small amounts during the day and eating one huge meal at night. This method was popularized by fitness expert Ori Hofmekler.

It is generally considered less restrictive and more flexible than many other diet plans and can easily fit into just about any lifestyle.

6. Alternate day fasting: Alternating between days of no food restriction with days that consist of one meal that provides about 25% of daily calorie needs.

For instance, Monday-Wednesday-Friday consists of fasting, while alternate days have no food restrictions.
