Accepting that we are sabotaging our relationship is something we would never admit to even when we know for a fact that we are doing just that.

And this is totally alright. Almost all of us may be subconsciously ruining our relationships. It’s not our intention to do that because we don’t want to lose our partner, but we sometimes display behaviours that may push them away in the long run.

Here are seven ways you may be sabotaging your relationship.

 1. Over-Thinking

Fear of the unknown is one of the ways we ruin our relationships. You overthink almost everything, overthinking is a defence mechanism. Having destructive thoughts will bring you nothing but trouble and continuous problems in your relationship.

You would keep creating scenarios that are not really in your heads, instead of doing that why not develop the courage and sit your partner down, talk about whatever is disturbing you. Your emotions, fears, and feelings.

2. Not feeling good enough.

This is one of the things that stop most of us in our tracks. The feeling of not being good enough for your partner is something that can destroy your relationship without knowing it.

You would always question yourself and your capacity to show love to your partner.

Always second-guessing yourself, your partner and your every move. Beating yourself up will push your partner away. You would make it hard for them to love you because people want to be around other healthy people.

People who feel comfortable and content with themselves and believe that they are good enough to be loved and give love back.

3. Not listening to your partner

Your partner will feel unheard when you don’t listen to them. This would always make them feel like they are not important to you either in their opinions. Not listening to your partner is something that can sabotage your relationship faster than you can think.

The feeling of insecurity will push them away from you.

You need to start giving room for them to express how they feel about certain issues in other to keep your relationship. This way you can have a deep and meaningful conversation that allows both you and them to be heard and accepted.

4. Lies

Relationships are built on trust and honesty. Never lie to your partner, lies are harmful and will damage even the strongest relationships if care is not taken.

Honestly should be your best policy, this way you can always tell them the truth and avoid unnecessary conflict and misunderstanding.

5. When you don’t support them.

Many relationships need a strong foundation in other to survive. Without these foundations, the relationship will collapse. You should be their support system, someone they can rely on.

Not supporting your partner is like abandoning them and saying you don’t care about things that involve their lives.

It’s important that you support and cheer them up when they need you most. This way they know you have their backs.

6. You complain too much

You always look for reasons to complain and bring your partner down. You make a big deal out of every single effort they make. You have something nasty to say about their choices and the gifts they get you.

Constantly bring up their mistakes and throwing them to their face. This may seem like nothing to you, but it’s the one thing that can crack your relationship.

7. Holding grudges

We hold grudges once in a while, but if you are endlessly annoyed by every small thing your partner does and can’t seem to let go of the anger, is a sign that you’re sabotaging your relationship. Grudges can lead to poor communication and delay in resolution.

If you noticed that your relationship seems to be falling apart, you might need to sit back, look through the whole situation. It may be that you are the one sabotaging your own efforts in that relationship without knowing.
