Did you know that perfumes vary from each other?  Or you buy perfume based on their brands and not its concentration (longevity value).

Perfumes come in different concentrations and this also determines their price point.

Yes…… Just what you’re thinking, a Perfume with a higher perfume extract/concentration is equal to a higher price.  This can be tricky to figure out and that’s why you are here.

Different Categories of Perfumes

1. Perfume/Parfum
2. Eau de Parfum
3. Eau de Toilette
4. Eau de Cologne

Each perfume is differentiated by its concentration of essential oil/extract in the fragrance and its base (This refers to the fragrance strength)

1. Perfume/Parfum:

These types of perfumes are oiler due to its highest concentration of essential oils/extracts (it is said to be 20-40%) and it tends to last longer on the skin. It contains less alcohol, thereby not drying the skin out. It can last up to 8hours and more. It is the most expensive fragrance.

2. Eau de Parfum:

This is the second type of perfume with a higher concentration of essential oils (it is said to be 15-20%). It contains alcohol, water, and it extracts and can last up to 5hours. It is less expensive compared to Parfum.

3. Eau de Toilette:

The perfumes are less concentrated with essential oil (it is said to be 5-10%). This type of perfume appears as a copy to Eau de Parfum and lasts up to 2-3hours. It is more dominant when first applied and because of its high percentage of alcohol, evaporates quickly. It is affordable compared to the others above.

4. Eau de Cologne:

The perfume is mostly characterized as “Men Fragrance” due to its high content of alcohol, less concentration of essential oil/extracts (it is said to be 2-4%). It can last up to 2hours and is mostly available in big bottles (need a large quantity for it to last longer). It is usually less expensive.

5. Eau Fraiche:

These are the most diluted type of perfumes containing low concentrations of essential oils (it is said to be 1-3%), less amount of alcohol and more water content. It can last up to an hour and is mostly used as a reapplicant.

Body mists, Aftershaves etc. are categorized under this type of perfume and it is way cheaper compared to other fragrances (of course water is life☺).

6. Perfume oils:

Perfume oils contain pure oil as their base (no alcohol or water). Its essential oils are up to 20-30% and then carrier oil makes up the other blend.
