Since our accidental lunch at the restaurant, the other, we haven’t seen much of each other. We work in different departments, and my company is so big that the likelihood of running into one another is slim.
But when we do, he just winks at me with a smile, like we have an inside joke that only the both of us know about.
So I came in late again today. This is the second time this month I’ve gotten an email requesting I report to the HR department during lunch, meaning I’m going to have to face him again.
I mean, we are already getting along so well, I would hate for him to scold me for coming late. It’s not like I’ve been able to make him fall for me or anything, but at least he notices me now and he acknowledges my presence when we see each other.
By the way, I finally got a PA after more than one request, and might I add, she is a sweetheart. Her name is Tade, and she makes my life easy. When I entered the office, Tade told me that I was expected to report to the HR department to see the head of the department.
Thank you, Tade. I saw the mail too. And then she went ahead to list out my tasks for the day and all the meetings I had to attend before the end of the day.
Walking down to the HR department feels like the longest walk I have ever had to take in my life. The department is a very big one.
Seriously, I mean, they have a whole floor to themselves. I got to his office and was asked to wait in the reception area because he was presently attending to someone in his office.
This gave me an opportunity to snoop around the HR department, which I wasn’t able to do the last time I was there. Finally, it was my turn to go in to see him. After the first knock, I was asked to come in.
On like the previous time I was in his office, he had a smile on his face today. Good morning, Mr. James, I said, immediately stepping into his office.
You know, as the head of a department, coming late isn’t setting a good example for your team members, right? He asked me, “I know, sir, and I promise it won’t happen again,” was my reply. He just looked me in the eye and said,
“That was what you said the last time you were in my office.” Anyway, have a seat. How are you today? And just so you know, the next time you come late, you will get a query, and I would hate for that to happen.
Noted sir, thank you. As I got up to leave, he called my name, Temi. I replied with a yes, and he said, “You look super sexy today, and I hope to see you at our favorite place for lunch.” With a smile on my face, I walked out of his office feeling like I had just hit a jackpot.
