Why Does My Face Sweat So Much
Excessive facial sweating manifests as significant sweat production on the forehead, temples, upper lip, nose, head, and neck. Sweat droplets are usually visible to everyone and run down the face.
Why do I sweat a lot on my face?
Several factors can cause facial sweating:
- Overweight
- Strong heat
- Severe stress or anxiety
- Physical efforts
- Hormonal dysfunction such as hyperthyroidism, for example
- Heredity: we often see cases of facial sweating in several individuals in the same family.
- A disorder affecting the sympathetic nervous system (it controls the sweat glands) leading to excessive sweat production.
What Can You Do About Excessive Sweating On Your Face?
First and foremost, you should discuss your problems with your doctor. If illnesses or side effects from medication can be ruled out as the cause, try the following measures to provide relief.
1. Daily facial care
Use an oil-free facial cream to care for your facial skin. Oily creams can form a film on the skin and encourage increased sweating on the face.
2. Adjust your make-up
Avoid heavy make-up to cover up sweat. It will only increase sweating. If you don’t want to go without make-up, use light-tinted day creams or light liquid make-up – ideally tailored to oily, blemished skin types. This will give your face a natural complexion and not clog the pores, allowing the skin to “breathe” and not sweat so quickly.
3. The proper diet
Avoid foods that are difficult to digest and spicy. These put unnecessary strain on the body and inevitably make you sweat. Instead, choose easily digestible, varied whole foods.
4. Sufficient fluid intake
Drinking is essential and ensures fresh, vital skin. Especially if you sweat a lot, you should balance your water levels. Sufficient fluid is crucial to maintain the body’s vitality. The fluid lost – also through sweating – must be replenished. You should drink at least 2 litres daily to replenish your fluid reserves. This will refresh your body pleasantly and, at the same time, supply it with minerals and electrolytes that have been lost through sweating.
5. Not ice cold
Even if the temptation is great, please do not drink ice-cold drinks, as these encourage the body to produce heat and are counterproductive. The same phenomenon applies when showering. Thus, do not shower cold, but rather lukewarm.
6. Antiperspirants for the face
Antiperspirants help against excessive sweating under the arms and against sweating on the face and neck.
How To Avoid Sweat On Your Face?
In the event of excessive facial sweating, a few simple hygiene rules to apply can also improve daily life:
- Avoid soaps that attack the skin. Preferably, use a superfatted or slightly antiseptic soap with a neutral pH.
- Remove as much as possible the risk factors for facial sweating (stress, consumption of spicy foods, alcohol, getting cool in case of extreme heat, etc.)
- Use cooling sweat wipes for sudden excessive sweating.
- Dry the face thoroughly after washing, not neglecting any area.
