Period pain can be the worst. It is literally a major pain, but we all know it is one of the complications of having a period. While some girls may experience mild discomfort, a few unfortunate ladies can hardly move from their beds.
It seems like an unfair deal. Not only do women have to bleed for days, but we deal with pain and cramps, too. However, other conditions can cause a reason for this pain and, sometimes, painful periods.

Naturally, period pains are caused by the tightening of the womb. It is a normal part of the menstrual cycle, but it could also be one of the following
- An infection of the ovaries, womb or fallopian tubes
- Fibroids, i.e. growth in or around the womb
- Womb tissue growing in other places.
It is important to note that period pain does not automatically mean that you have these conditions. These conditions need to be diagnosed by a doctor. Your period pain may be normal. If it is, there are a few remedies you could try to soothe it.
How to stop period pain immediately
There is no possible way to stop a period of pain immediately. Everything that goes on in your body during your menstrual cycle is the reason for the pain you experience. There is no way you can halt the pain immediately, but there are ways you can relieve the pain, and these remedies can take a few minutes to kick in. They include;
- The answer could be as simple as a warm bath or shower. It makes you feel relaxed and soothes your period pain.
- Massage the abdomen with essential oils. Using oils like rosemary, peppermint, or sage can help relieve period pains or cramps.
- Use a heating pad or a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel on your abdomen. This does the work of a pain reliever, and it feels amazing.
- You could massage your back, too. Some women feel more pain in their back than in their abdomen. You could massage it with essential oils to relieve the pain.
- Use a painkiller. You could take a painkiller immediately after the pain starts. Painkillers like ibuprofen or paracetamol should work.
- Try some relaxing exercises like yoga, walking or cycling.
- This may not be everybody’s cup of tea, especially for those who are celibate, but reaching orgasm can help stop the period pain or reduce it to a bearable amount. Having an orgasm does the same thing as exercise; they both release endorphins, which make the body feel good and relieve pain.
- Having a cup of tea helps alleviate the pain. A cup of ginger or green tea may be just what you need.
If you have severe period pains, a doctor may suggest stronger remedies for you, such as;
– Contraceptives, which make your period lighter and ease the pain.
– Anti-inflammatory medicines
If your period pains become unbearable, you must see the doctor immediately.
