Heartbreak is a devastating experience and something that hurts so much. This is because of what heartbreak does to your brain, mental state, and body.

Sometimes, it feels like your heart is going to break into two, you may lose your appetite, your desire to do anything and all you just want to do is lay in bed crying all day over your lost love.

For a while, confusion will rule your brain, you begin to question yourself and your personality and trying to figure out what you did wrong and all.

But all these feelings and emotions are fine and valid, it’s okay if you want to cry about it for a while, it is okay if you don’t want to talk about it or even get up.

However, the good thing about heartbreak is that it gets easier with time and there is no time frame for you to get over a heartbreak. For some, it might take a few months, while for others it could be few days.

We all heal and grieve in different ways, and in our own time and losing someone you love can make you question almost everything you know about yourself and your relationship with that person. So at this point, the best thing you can do for yourself is taking care of yourself.

It is impossible to avoid heartbreak unless you are a robot (lol), but there are ways you can live through it even if you don’t feel like it at the moment or you don’t believe there is light at the end tunnel.

Some that can help strengthen you up and make you feel loved and wanted again. You should talk to someone you can trust, like your parents, your friends or even siblings. You will be delighted you did.

2. Allow yourself to feel.

It’s okay to feel furious and confused. Feeling this way after heartbreak is normal. You just suffered a huge loss and grieving is necessary for you to heal. Instead of avoiding those emotions, permit yourself to feel them.

Acknowledging that whatever pain you are experiencing right now is temporary and you would eventually feel at peace and find your way back to your happy place.

3. Forgive and let go.

Forgiveness is about you and creating room in your mind to let go of all the negatives emotions associated with the heartbreak so you can move on.

Often time when a relationship doesn’t work out as expected, it simply wasn’t a good fit, or that the timing was wrong. It could be several different reasons.

4. Appreciate the Good memories.

Regardless of how the relationship ended, there are chances that all the moments you spent together are not all bad. It is normal to look back at what was good about your relationship and smile about it even talk about it with friends.

When you remember a happy memory allow yourself to be grateful for it and move on. This is part of the healing process.

5. Take care of yourself.

Taking care of both your physical and mental health is key after a heartbreak. This means learning to love and cherish your beautiful self.

Eat well, regular exercise, sleep well and create a social support system that would help you cope with all the stress and pain you are feeling.

Also be gentle, kind, and patient towards yourself. The feelings of rejection can reduce self-worth which then triggers unhealthy habits like neglect towards your needs and even resentment which can lead to depression.

The secret to getting over heartbreak lies within you. By accepting what has happened and dealing with all the emotions that come with it.

Fight for yourself don’t allow the heartbreak to continue hurting, also silence that little voice that is distracting you from moving on. Go out there, meet with friends, live, love, and be happy.

You deserve it.
