Hmmm…. Some of us cannot wear body con now, without sucking in all the air in our lungs just to take a very fine picture.
We are not body shaming o, it is just when you notice something that bothers you, work on it. If it does not, then own it.
But then excess belly fat is unhealthy. It is a risk factor for Type 2 diabetes.
For those who belly fat bothers, you might just want to know why you now have something you did not use to have or why it is more pronounced now than it used to be.
1. Do you have a healthy relationship with food? Eating because you are sad and not because of the need is as much an unhealthy relationship with food as is consuming excess sugar and refined carbs. Studies have shown a link between high sugar intake and excess belly fat. Love, yearn to eat healthy, coupled with an active lifestyle.
2.Heavy alcohol consumption may be why you have visceral fat. Alcohol may have health benefits. For example, red wine when consumed moderately may reduce your risk of stroke and heart attacks. Excess alcohol intake can lead to liver diseases and inflammation.
3.Cortisol, a stress hormone produced by the adrenal glands have been found in women who have a large waist in proportion to their hips when stressed. Cortisol promotes fat storage in the belly. When you feel stressed and the only thing you want to do is to continue eating, remember this!
4.Menopause and childbirth: Not everybody goes back to having a banging body after having kids. It takes consistent exercise and portion control to get that back.
Estrogen levels drop around menopause causing fat to be stored around the abdomen unlike during puberty when these hormones are high and they cause fat to be distributed around the thighs, butt and hip, preparing you for womanhood.
5. It might just be genetic. We see normal weighted women who have excess belly fat. It appears that the tendency to store fat around the abdomen has a lot to do with the gene, this also includes the gene for the receptor that regulates cortisol.
