When you find a lump under your skin, especially in specific areas like your breasts, for example, your first thought might be cancer.

Lumps

Lumps are small pebbles of mass or tissue that you find underneath your skin; you can see them anywhere on your body.

Most of the time, lumps are entirely harmless. If you come across a lump on your body, you should first see a doctor and get a scan. That way, you can ascertain whether your lump is a cause for worry.

Possible causes of Lumps

Lumps could be caused for several reasons, depending on where they appear.

  • Lumps on your body could be due to cysts, lipomas and skin tags.
  • Lumps on your armpits, neck or groin could be due to swollen glands, hernia, goitre or genital warts.
  • Lumps on the breasts or testicles could be simple breast lumps or swelling on the testicle.
  • Lumps around the anus could be piles
  • Lumps on the hands could be a cyst or a wart.

Note that you must see a doctor to ascertain your type of lump. Do not try to self-diagnose yourself. Only a licensed practitioner can ascertain the seriousness or non-seriousness of your lump.
