What To Wear to A Backyard Wedding

Modern weddings have taken the world by storm. Couples no longer rush to rent out the most exclusive wedding halls because, technically, you can get married anywhere!

Moreover, the toilet is not included, but you get the gist. Weddings can always occur in traditional places like the church, a rented wedding venue like a hall or garden or even on the beach. It could also happen in the couple’s childhood home and your backyard.

When the venue differs from the usual, you could be unsure what to put on. Can you wear a cocktail dress for a backyard wedding, or can men wear a suit?

The very first thing you must consider is the dress code on the wedding invite. Follow it, and your indecision will suddenly be made clear. If it says formal, semi-formal, dressy casual, all white, all pink, then dress accordingly.

However, if you are winging it (meaning there are no dress instructions for guests), then you should stick to the following;

  • Floral prints: Whether it is a dress, pants, kimono, or jumpsuit, floral prints will look pretty against the grass, and even if there is no grass in their backyard, it would still look just as good.
  • Pretty pastels: Have you seen the wardrobe of the “Bridgerton” series cast while they promenade around Hyde Park? Or while chatting in their gardens? They wear pastel colours: shades of pink, mauve and baby blue. They would do very well for a backyard wedding. Seeing as this wedding is happening outdoors, you should take a shawl or jacket with you in case of a chill.
  • The proper footwear: The need for this must be stressed more. You may be standing or dancing for a very long time. Even sitting down with too-tight shoes can be tedious. You are also outdoors, so you want to avoid getting grass stains on an expensive shoe. It may never come off, so choose comfortable footwear that isn’t too high and can be cleaned easily.
  • For guys: A nice fitted top and slacks would do nicely. If you like exploring, add a floral print to your attire; a nice floral suit, inner vest, and slacks would do nicely.
  •  Ladylike accessory: Go for dainty than large. Simple jewellery will do, like a tiny pendant necklace or pearls. You could also wear hats and fascinators, but keep it down low.
  • Breezy gowns: This depends on your climate and the season. If it is hot, you may want to wear an airy fabric; no one wants to be uncomfortably hot or sweaty. Summer, cocktail, and maxi dresses made of light fabric like chiffon should do great.
  • Remember the basic rule: It might be a wedding in someone’s backyard, but it is a wedding. That means no white. Do not for any reason wear white except expressly asked to. White is fine for accessories, but for your clothing, avoid any outfit with white as its primary colour. You can, however, wear a prominent floral print with a white background or an outfit with white as a secondary colour. For the guys, white is fine as an inner vest, but try to avoid the bridal party’s colours.

With these tips, your next backyard wedding will not be a problem.
