What is Pu erh Tea?

Pu Erh is a fermented tea produced in the Yunnan Province of China.

Pu erh tea has existed since the 7th century. It is made from a variety of Camellia Sinensis tea plants. It is believed that the older the tea is, the better and more complex the flavour of Pu erh tea.

Pu erh tea is generally considered suitable for health, but when it is consumed more than necessary or consumed more than needed for the body, it could lead to some side effects such as;

  1. If you are sensitive to caffeine, taking the tea cautiously is best to prevent caffeine-associated side effects. (Though the caffeine is present in minimal amounts, it’s best to play safe.)
  2. In ancient times, this tea was treated as medicine to help with illnesses. Therefore, it is recommended that you start with 1-2 cups a day. Anything more than this would be likened to substance abuse and may cause stomach ulcers.
  3. Headaches and sleep problems due to caffeine
  4. Irregular heartbeats, tremors and dizziness
  5. Caffeine might increase blood pressure, especially for patients with high blood pressure.
