The vagina is one of the parts of the female body that cleans itself and doesn’t need to be washed. It’s a delicate part of the body that needs proper care in order to stay clean and healthy.

However, it’s necessary to wash your vulva which is the outer part of your genitals, and the area around your anus to help avoid infections and irritation in the vagina.

You should keep your vagina clean by developing good hygiene patterns, like wearing breathable cotton underwear and wiping front to back when you use the bathroom.

Regardless of our self-regulating vagina, there are some things you can do to make it feel fresh and healthy.

Vagina care tips

Make sure you wash the area around your vagina at least once a day.

The reason for this is that throughout the day, sweat and moisture will build up in your genital area, giving that part of the body a good place for bacteria and yeast.

Washing that area daily should be part of your regular bath routine to prevent infections and unpleasant odors in the vagina. If you are on your period, it’s necessary to wash more than once a day.

Do not use scented soap to wash your genital area.

Rather use plain, unscented soap when you wash. Perfume soaps are harsh as can irritate your vulva and vagina, this can possibly cause infections. Also, don’t scrub the vulva area just use your hand or a soft cloth to wash to avoid irritations.

Make sure you wear cotton underwear.

Cotton is the most breathable material you can cover your vagina with, instead of the synthetic lace undies which are not even comfortable.

You risk your chances of having vagina bacteria when you wear thongs because it’s a high chance of whisking bacteria into your vagina. It is important you wear the right panties to avoid unnecessary infections.

Do away with your underwear at nighttime.

One of the ways you can improve your vaginal health is by removing your undies before going to bed at night.

Even good and breathable cotton underwear snags moisture against the skin, which makes the vagina a bit more receptive to yeast as bacterial growth. So ditch the underwear and sleep without them.

Using scented wipes and vaginal deodorant can disrupt the vagina’s healthy natural balance.

Washing with water and plain soap is all you need to keep your vagina healthy. The vagina isn’t supposed to smell like a rose and it’s totally normal for it to have a scent.

If your vagina smell is that terrible and you need a perfume to cover up the smell, you would need to see a GP because you might have an infection that needs treatment.

Launder new undies before you wear them.

The thing is new underwear may have harsh chemical residues that can irritate your vulva and vagina. So you must wash them properly before wearing them for the first time.

In Conclusion

The Vagina cleans itself. But, it is very important to keep your vulva clean. You can do this with water and soap. Have good vagina and vulva hygiene, wear cotton panties, eat good food, wash your vulva regularly and clean your vagina with just water especially when you are on your period.
