The idea that Feminism and Misandry are the same has become a common misconception in recent times. Truth be told if one is not intentional about their research or the thing may they see on social media, one can easily miss the difference, in other to avoid this one must then separately search out each concept stands for.
So what then are Feminism and Misandry?
Feminism
According to Merriam Webster dictionary is: belief in and advocacy of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes expressed especially through organized activity on behalf of women’s rights and interests.
Misandry
According to Merriam Webster dictionary is simply defined as the hatred of, contempt for, or prejudice against men or boys.
Misandry can embody itself in numerous ways, encompassing sexual discrimination, denigration of men, violence against men, and sexual objectification of men.
If Feminism is purely a fight for political, economic, and social equality between both sex. If it is about fighting for an equal place for women in a world dominated by men why then is it misconstrued as hate for men (Misandry).
One of the reasons people make this mistake is the fact that feminism challenges gender norms. Its goal is to create a world in which everyone enjoys equal rights irrespective of their sex.
The problem now is that people who benefit from patriarchy are reluctant to support the movement and end up confusing it with misandry.
Some people even think that feminists, instead of demanding equality, want a social structure in which men will be suppressed by women, and this, by all means, is not the case.
For clarity purpose what then is the difference between feminism and misandry?
Feminism is for women’s rights in various fields and to make every woman treated in a correct way. Feminists advocates for women’s rights, equality, empowerment, and violence, harassment, and abuses against women.
They want gender equality; they believe a father’s rights are just as necessary as a mother’s rights. If a child would be better off with the father than the mother, you rest assured they would help the father.
Meanwhile;
Misandry wants to take over completely. They want the patriarchy out and demeaned, it is an anti-male community.
These are the women who would be terrified if another woman told her story of abuse. But if a man opened up about his own experiences with being abused, they would dismiss it as if it were unimportant. These are the people who tell men to keep their emotions at bay no one wants to see them.
In conclusion,
Feminism is not a concept that propagates the passing of judgments but it works towards a change in a societal structure where women aren’t made to feel guilty about being ambitious and not taking care of a family, and men aren’t shamed if they want to do exactly that, while misandry advocates for the exact opposite, the doom of men.
