Recently, thousands of women in the United Kingdom came out to protest across various locations to highlight the rising levels of drink spiking. This should be a global problem.

Being spiked is an act of violence against women, becoming a norm too for men. We advise precautions and safety methods when the perpetrators should be hunted down.

We tell the women not to dress in certain ways in order not to be a target. We advise them not to visit certain places, as preventive measures for their drinks being spiked.

How about the men that are victims of this as well, are they dressing indecently as well? Or do we rather tell everyone to stay in their houses in order not to be a victim?

Drink spiking should not exist, unfortunately, it is an issue we have to deal with as life is getting back to normal and our fun locations are opening up again.

Drinks could be spiked with common date-rape drugs such as gamma-hydroxybutyric acid [GHB], Ketamine and Rohypnol.

A spiked drink could have excessive bubbles, not previously present. The ice cubes in the drink could begin to sink. It could have a foggy appearance or a change from the usual colour.

Bars are usually dark and with lights of different colours asides from white which might make it difficult to spot these changes at a glance. Going for bottled drinks is a safer option to purchase at locations like this.

Spiking of drinks or by injection is not only limited to bars or nightclubs. You are just as lightly to be spiked at a house party amongst friends. Never put your drink down and always have it covered.

Some of these date-rape drugs are colourless and tasteless as such might not be detected especially when mixed with alcohol.

For someone who does not drink, recognizing the side effects of these drugs as they are similar to side effects from too much alcohol, could alert you to call for help or know what to do, to help a friend who has been spiked. Dizziness, confusion, nausea, and drowsiness are common signs.

The Undercover colours website advertises Sipchips that detects spiked drinks with up to 99.3 per cent accuracy. Sipchip is a coin-sized test kit that helps detect if your drink has been spiked.

Add a drop of your drink to the kit and the result is up in 30 seconds. One line indicates that your drink has been tampered with. A double line means your drink is safe to take in.

To those who feel the need to victimize other people by placing them in harm’s way such as this, telling you to STOP seems like a plea, you should get help if you always feel the need to hurt others. GET HELP.
