Body odour, also known as Bromhidrosis is simply an unpleasant smell perceived in the human’s body. It’s one of the greatest frustration for people that have it, as it can be so embarrassing most times.

Although, body odour is a universal and very natural human trait and can be due to several things. It usually occurs when a human reaches puberty stage.

Some of the known causes of body odour have been genetic build-ups, excessive sweating, eating too many spicy foods, your body weight etc.

Cause Of Body Odour

Body odour is caused by bacteria breaking down sweat which is largely linked to the apocrine glands.

These glands are majorly in the breasts, genital area, eyelids, armpits, and ear. In the breasts, they secrete fat droplets into breast milk, while in the ear, they help form earwax

Most of the apocrine glands in the skin are located in the groin, armpits, and around the nipples. In the skin, they usually have an odour.

The apocrine glands are mainly responsible for body odour because the sweat they produce is high in protein, which bacteria can break down easily.

Sometimes, a sudden and persistent change to your normal odour can be a sign of an underlying condition.

Other causes of body odour

  • exercise
  • hot weather
  • hormonal changes
  • being overweight
  • conditions like diabetes, kidney disease or liver disease
  • certain types of medicine, such as an antidepressant.

How to handle body Odour

Shower more regularly – take your bathe at least more than once in a day to remove some of the bacteria at the surface of the skin (before they start secreting by-products) and also wash away sweat.

The use of anti-bacterial soap – this will enhance the removal of some of the bacteria on your skin surfaces

Dry thoroughly after showering – when your skin is dry, it’s harder for the bacteria to thrive. Bacteria grow fastest in moist environments.

Use antiperspirant deodorant – this will prevent/reduce sweating and therefore reduce body odour

Cut out spicy foods – reduce the intake of strong-smelling foods like curry, garlic, spicy peppers, onions etc. that can cause a more pungent sweat.

Limit your caffeine intake – these also cause you to sweat more than usual.

Regular shaving of the armpits and pubic areas– The hair holds sweat and makes a good environment where bacteria can thrive. Removing hair can go a long way in controlling body odour.

Quick Fix for female with strong body odour

Most women have the in-frequent case of funny-smelling feet or pungent pits. This can occur especially in summer’s sweltering temperature. Fortunately, there’s a simple answer for each of your stinking parts.

Some reason you can have a bad body odour as a lady might be the following reasons;

  • Bacterial vaginosis (fishy odor discharge, itching, burning during urination)
  • Poor hygiene

If you are the type that get too sweaty during exercise, consider wearing light-colored, loose-fitting clothes. Dark fabrics increase the body temperature and reduce evaporation, causing sweat to stay on your skin.

Wearing a loose-fitting clothes during exercise allow air to pass over your skin, providing for sweat evaporation and cooling.

Get an antibacterial cure for Smelly-Hair Syndrome- smelly hair syndrome is a condition that results in a pungent stench from the hair and scalp.

To prevent a sweaty vagina, wash it daily with warm water and a mild, nondrying soap (but skip the soap on the thin tissues of the inner vulva or vaginal opening). Change your undies as needed if you get sweaty, and opt for fabrics that breathe, like cotton.
