Who is the boat club in Lagos?

Founded on January 23, 1950, the Lagos Motor Yacht Club is a private yacht club for members only. It is acknowledged as one of Nigeria’s most esteemed clubs.

Recalling the Club’s founding principles is crucial as we look to the future. Similar to all social institutions, it experiences highs and lows.

While many other Clubs have faded away, the Club has flourished because of its underlying culture and members’ dedication to common sense.

On January 23, 1950, at Wilmott Point, a group of individuals who had split off from the 1938-founded Lagos Tarpon Club formed the Lagos Motor Boat Club.

The Tarpon Club was founded primarily for fishermen, but as recreational boating increased over time, the Club’s initial goals were being jeopardized.
