Can Watery Sperm Get a Woman Pregnant
Watery sperm, also known as Liquefied Semen Plasma (LSP) or Oligospermia, is one of the leading causes of infertility in men.
Factors that Influence the Consistency of the Semen
- Frequent Ejaculation:
How often a man ejaculates may determine the consistency of his sperm. If a man engages in multiple sexual activities, including masturbation and sexual intercourse in succession, within a short time.
Your body may not have enough time to make up the average volume of semen it usually does, which is typically around 15 million sperm/ml.
In this regard, your watery semen issue is reversible. It will typically resolve on its own after a few days of abstinence.
- Retrograde Ejaculation
This occurs when there is a sphincter at the bladder rather than allowing semen to be ejaculated. It forces it back to the bladder due to malfunctioning.
Some of the semen might still be able to slip out of the penis. Still, the volume is significantly less, and the semen may appear watery.
- Zinc Deficiency
Zinc is an essential nutrient for reproduction and thus plays a role in sperm production. A shortage of zinc in the body may elevate the risks of having watery semen.
However, don’t go off consuming too much zinc as an excess of zinc in the body does the same thing a shortage does, that is, reduce the quality of sperm.
Some foods rich in zinc are- red meat, nuts, yogurt and dairy products, beans, and whole grains.
- Varicocele: This is an inflammation of the veins in the scrotum, leading to a reduction in sperm production and quality in some individuals.
- Infections: Infections, sexually transmitted or otherwise, can affect sperm ducts and lead to an inflammation of the testicles, potentially affecting semen quality.
Other factors that can contribute to watery semen or male infertility such as:
Genetic conditions like Klinefelter syndrome, hormone disorders like hyperthyroidism and hypogonadism, certain medications or drugs (hard ones in this case), excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, unhealthy diet, obesity, exposure to radiation, toxins, industrial chemicals, and herbicides, overheating of the testicles from tight clothes or warm temperatures and stress.
It is important to note that watery semen is still semen and can fertilize an egg. There might be difficulty with conception.
Immediate factors that may affect the ability of watery semen to fertilize an egg may be the motility and concentration of the sperm.
Motility determines the sperm’s to reach and fertilize an egg, and concentration refers to the quantity available to fertilize an egg.
Can it be resolved?
Watery sperm is often temporary and may resolve on its own. Still, a persistent one indicates that you have a low sperm count or another condition that may affect fertility.
This is the reason most people believe that LSP can affect fertility. If the issue is persistent, it is best to consult a doctor so they may identify the underlying cause and help you with your fertility issues.
