Crochet braids aren’t mostly used and dump extensions. And yes, you can wash and use and use over again. Crochet braids are synthetic textures (although there is the human hair blend crochet – faux loc).

These kinds of extensions are usually ‘knitted’ into your hair in such a way that your scalp is protected (don’t be afraid to speak up if your hairstylist does your cornrows too tight)

Did I mention that it saves time? Yes, it does save time.

The braids are crocheted on weaving/cornrow and they roll from the front of the head to the back. And can be installed individually by wrapping around the root of your already braided hair.

These braids include box braids, twists, and locs. Loose hair, on the other hand, may be a little tricky. The texture and quality of the loose hair will be the determining factor. If it’s coarse and tangles, it may be difficult to reuse.

Wash me

After use, put it in a bowl of water. Pour your preferred shampoo in the bowl of water, then place the extension in the bowl.

Wash gently, remember it’s an extension and not clothes.

You are likely to experience a little bit of unraveling on the ends. Add some gel to the ends and twist it and allow it to dry.

My extension is frizzy

A pair of scissors would reduce crochet braids/twist/ frizz. You can either do this yourself or ask your hairstylist to help you with it. It can also be done post washing. Or while you are still wearing it.

Lest I forget, ensure to get a towel and wrap it around your shoulders and body to protect yourself from the little strands you cut off.

Get a strand (or a few strands) of the hair and slide off the frizzy part with the scissors.

How long is too long to keep crochet

Synthetic crochet locs can last anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks. You can reuse them. They look even better after your first install.

So you can get multiple uses out of it for re-installation. On the other hand, it is said that human hair blend crochet faux locs, can last for up to 3 months.

If you are to keep these in for months for one install, hair care for your natural hair underneath will be a priority with regular shampoo and conditioning to keep your scalp clean. But you will also need a retouch of your roots which we will touch on later.
