Adjusting to Your New Routine as a New Mother

Being a first time mom can be overwhelming and exhausting. Having to juggle feeding, sleeping, chores, family, etc can break you as a woman.

You need to find balance by creating a daily schedule that is structured yet manageable giving you enough time to attend to your own health and other things.

Although babies sleeping patterns are not something you can predict, there are methods that you can apply that would help you a lot.

The first thing you want to do is create a list of things to do.

The most important things should come first like bathing and feeding your baby etc and the less important things.

Start by knocking out your ”must do’s” then over onto your ”should do’s” and if you have time you can include your ”would like to do”

The second thing you want to do is to establish a routine with your baby.

It is essential you create a routine around your baby, this will help create structure, reduce overwhelming fatigue, improve sleep, etc. for you as a mother.  This means a better frame of mind to be able to combat postpartum depression and anxiety.

For babies this means feeling comfortable and secured in a new environment, this will make him/her less fussy since he/she is able to predict what comes next.

You will be able to find a rhythm to your day and focusing on your child rather than what to do next.

You might also want to start small and add on later.

The best thing you can do for yourself as a new mother is lowering your expectations for what you can accomplish in a day. A baby needs a lot of attention because of that you need to reduce the demand you place on yourself. And when you find yourself with free time try to accomplish some other tasks.

Try to make use of babywearing

It will help you most times. You can accomplish so much by just wrapping your baby up and working without having to put them down especially for babies that need constant contact at all times.

When creating your to-do list, include things you enjoy doing.

It shouldn’t be just chores and baby cares alone. Make time to call a friend, read a book or even see a movie.  Motherhood can become unbearable you wouldn’t want that to affect your baby’s growth.

Always ask for help

You cannot do everything by yourself which means you need as much help as you can get. And if you don’t feel comfortable asking friends or family to help with chores you can ask them over to hold your baby while you attend to other things.

In Conclusion:

Acknowledge that you are human, it’s okay to be exhausted, and also, making mistakes is inevitable in motherhood.

Finally!!!!!  Your rest time can never be overemphasized. Try to always have rest
