Dairy milk is not for everyone, about 65% of the world’s population is lactose intolerant. This means they stopped producing the enzyme lactase which is needed in processing lactose, the sugar in milk. As such, when ingested, they have reactions like bloating, diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal cramps and sometimes vomiting.

In this case, your body cannot process milk, is it good for you? Certainly not. However, there is non-dairy milk such as coconut milk, soy milk, rice milk, almond milk, tiger nut milk which may be a substitute for the lactose-intolerant folks.

These may not contain as much protein as dairy milk. Thus, you would have to source protein in other foods.

You should consider that these substitutes are processed, and be aware of the amount and type of sweeteners added into them except you intend to produce them yourself. The tiger nut milk in particular can be produced at home as it is easier to blend and filter out the shaft to get the juice out.

So, if you are lactose intolerant or have a dairy allergy, you are not missing out on anything as the nutrient in milk can be gotten from other sources.

Milk, however, is nutrient-packed, it contains minerals like calcium, potassium and vitamins D. Calcium is particularly good for strong bones and teeth.

Now, there are varying arguments as to the importance of milk in one’s diet. From personal experience, we have witnessed the addition of milk to a diet, daily, which helps to strengthen and repair bones.

It is plain simple, when you notice a good change in your body after taking milk, then by all means carry on in moderation, and block out the noise.

From whole milk(3.25% milkfat), reduced-fat milk(2% milkfat), low-fat milk(1% milkfat) to fat-free milk, each one has essential nutrients and protein.

The difference is the amount of fat they contain. Opting for the type of milk to consume should be strictly your choice and the effect you notice from using a particular brand.

The majority these days have access to mainly processed milk with additives unlike fresh farm milk back in the day from naturally bred animals. In essence, go for a good brand, once it is beneficial to you, just stick with it.
