Heels become burdensome with age, you gradually tend towards wearing less high shoes. There is really no perfect time to ditch heels neither does age have to take that shine away.

Taking a break from your heels during the day would not hurt anyone. This will give your feet a chance to breathe and allow blood circulation. In walking long distances, you could pack up a pair of slippers to walk in till you get to your destination and put your heels back on.

You should ditch heels that have become tighter or bigger for you. You could give them out. Over the years, your foot size changes with body change. Wearing heels that are your perfect size will allow you more comfort.

Knees, feet and back complications?? Ditch the stilettos and go for thicker heels such as wedges and box heels or just shorter heels.

Some shoes are just not fit for the shape of your feet, shoes are shaped differently, this might be very uncomfortable.

It is much more advisable you shop for your shoes and heels yourself so as to be able to size them up and determine their comfortability. If your toes are longer you might have to ditch cover heels and go for peep-toes.
