What Happens When a Man Ejaculates in a Pregnant Woman

When a man ejaculates in a pregnant woman, the following happens:

  • Semen Deposition

Semen containing sperm is released into the vagina.

The sperm swims to the uterus to fertilize but finds that there is no egg to fertilize because the female is pregnant. Therefore, no fertilization occurs, and the sperm is trapped in the cervix.

During intercourse and after (when the semen is trapped). The baby is entirely unaffected no matter how deep the penis goes into the woman’s body. This is because the placenta, amniotic sac protect the baby, and mucus plug covering the cervix from the penis and semen.

Having sex during pregnancy is mostly safe, but if your doctor suggests otherwise, you should avoid it. Moreover, sex during high-risk pregnancies is discouraged to prevent preterm labour or placenta previa.

Orgasms in low-risk pregnancies may lead to minor contractions in the uterus; do not be alarmed as it is harmless.

  • Risk of Infection

While the risks of pregnancy are almost zero, there are still risks of STIs.  If either partner has an infection, there are risks of transmission, which may put the baby at risk.

Some of these are miscarriage, early labour, or other complications that could prove fatal for both mother and child. The effects may be immediate or long-term. Use protection if there is a risk of infection, or avoid intercourse until the infected partner has been treated.

  • Comfort

Your doctor is not the only person who should give a go-ahead if your partner is uncomfortable with sex at any point in time. You should consider and avoid her feelings or find ways to make her comfortable.

  • Double Pregnancy

This is known as Superfetation. It involves conceiving another baby when another pregnancy is in course. This is extremely rare, and fewer than 10 cases have been recorded.

The human body is built to prevent phenomena like this, primarily allowing one pregnancy per course. This is because eggs have to be released for ovulation, and when an egg has been fertilized, the female body typically stops producing eggs for fertilization.

So even if sperm were to enter the female body, there would be no eggs or no way to get to the eggs for fertilization.

Also, if an egg is fertilized, it would have to attach to the uterine walls, which is highly unlikely.

  • Semen and Pregnancy Progression

Towards EDD, it is commonly believed that intercourse and semen can help induce labour in pregnant women. This is because oxytocin is released, and it aids in labour progression.  Prostaglandins in the semen also help prepare the cervix for labour.

Precautions

Adhere to the recommendations provided by healthcare professionals to ensure the safety and well-being of both the mother and the baby.
