What Happens After Implantation Bleeding Stops
What is implantation bleeding?
Implantation bleeding is light blood spotting a few days after a fertilized egg implants itself on the uterine lining. This typically occurs 6 to 14 days after conception. It is usually light and brief, lasting between 1 – 3 days.
It also occurs around the time you get your period, as this is the time your body releases an egg for fertilization.
Often, you might even experience it and chalk it up to being your period.
This may also be a sign of pregnancy, but it does not occur in all pregnancies and only in about 25% of them. But bear in mind that it is entirely normal and does not point to any complication, present or otherwise.
Implantation bleeding or period?
Implantation bleeding needs to tick the following criteria to be considered one. Otherwise, it is just your period or another type of bleeding that may need to be checked by a doctor.
Bleeding is very light and may even be almost unnoticeable.
The colour is pink or brown.
Lasts a maximum of 3 days, while a period may last way longer.
No clotting
Heavy bleeding (more than you’d have with a typical period) can be a sign of a problem. Call your doctor if you are bleeding a lot or experiencing pelvic or abdominal pain, fever, chills, cramps, dizziness, or light-headedness.
Implantation Bleeding Symptoms
In addition to the above, women may also experience the following:
- Light cramping (implantation cramps)
- Lower back pain
- Mood swings
- Headaches
- Nausea and Vomiting
- tender breasts and nipples
- frequent urination
- Food cravings or aversions
- Upset stomach
- Fatigue
But note that these symptoms may also be symptoms of PMS and a possible pregnancy, so to confirm pregnancy, take a test.
If you experience implantation bleeding and suspect you might be pregnant, it’s still early to confirm pregnancy with a home test. These tests are usually most accurate a few days after a missed period.
You can also wait or get tested at the hospital via a blood test or ultrasound.
Here’s what happens after implantation bleeding stops:
Progesterone supports pregnancy and the development of the embryo from the development of the placenta.
Start Prenatal Care
Develop a balanced diet rich in essential nutrients and avoid harmful substances (like alcohol, tobacco, and certain medications).
Other Causes of Bleeding During Pregnancy
- Miscarriage.
- Ectopic pregnancy.
- Fibroids and polyps.
- Cervical infections
- Sex. Hormonal and physical changes may be to blame for this.
- Sexually transmitted diseases
Many things can cause bleeding when you’re pregnant, some of them harmless and some serious. If you’re bleeding a lot, with or without pain or cramping at any time, call your doctor.
