We all know relationships can be difficult, and I do not just mean romantic relationships, you know? Relationships with friends, siblings, parents and even your colleagues.
It can be difficult to interact with people on a day-to-day basis without getting into disagreements or fights.
While some disagreements may be easy to resolve, some tend to last longer than you ever thought possible.
Not only that, but the words you and the other party exchanged could leave imprints of deep hurt behind.
All of this is part of human nature. It could be you or the other party who started the problem.
Whatever it is, it is best to get that person off your mind and heart.
However, we all know that is easier said than done. So, how do you go about not thinking about someone?
How to stop thinking about someone
This is not as easy as it seems, but if this person keeps distorting your peace of mind, then there is no other option.
Of course, you cannot just stop thinking about someone overnight. It takes a while, and it requires much input from you. Here are a few things you could do and hopefully succeed in this feat:
1. Avoid all contact: Yes, when you want to stop thinking about someone, you have to go through extreme measures, and that means treating them like they have an early-century plague.
Please do not speak to them, do not look at them, do not even breathe their air. Avoid anywhere you know they could be and stay away completely.
2. That includes their social media: Do not text them and do not look at their social media accounts. Even if it means unfollowing them, then do it. Whatever makes you rid them from your mind should be done. Avoiding contact means digital contact as well.
3. Get a hobby: It could be that you spent almost every moment with this person you are currently trying to stop thinking about.
If so, not talking to them again could leave you with nothing to do. So, get a new hobby or find somewhere new to practice what you like. Take this time as a period of self-discovery; you may learn a thing or two about yourself.
4. Closure or vent: let us be honest, sometimes you may keep thinking about someone because you never got to say what you really wanted to say to them.
So maybe what you really need to do is talk to them one last time. Alternatively, write everything down somewhere. Tell them how you truly feel about whatever the problem is, and you may see it would be easier not to think of them again.
5. Focus on your reasons for avoiding them: let us say this person makes you feel horrible about yourself. He or she makes you love yourself less or brings out the worst in you. Whatever it may be, focus on that, and you will find it a lot easier to stay away.
We all go through fallout with people in our lives, but if that person brings out the worst in you, there is no need to stick to that person. Try these tips and see if it helps.
