There are moments where we have felt unsure of ourselves and decided to stay in our shells. It is okay to feel shy in certain situations, but when it consumes us and becomes a habit, then it becomes a problem.
Timidity might look normal for most people, but it is deeper than it looks. Being timid means many things; it means being afraid, intimidated, cowardly, fearful and so on.
Being timid can affect us in so many ways. It leaves you with a feeling of unworthiness. You may cut yourself out of friendships or social life because you are scared of interaction or being noticed. This most times leads to us being bullied simply because we are too shy to stand up for ourselves.

- Acceptance: You have to accept that you are a timid person; if you cannot accept the fact that you are timid, you cannot move on to the next step because you believe that there is no problem to be solved
- Finding the right type of support: This stage differs with people; most people might have more support from friends and family, and some are their mentors and life coaches. At the same time, some prefer to visit a therapist. You have to choose which works for you.
- Build your confidence: It is strongly adviced that you get a skill and master it at this stage. Being good in things like sports or a vocational skill has been said to improve the set of individual confidence levels, which increases the rate of their social life.
- Stop negative thoughts and self-sabotage: One thing associated with timidity is anxiety, and an anxious person will always have a negative thought and stop themselves from doing something that might be good for them.
- Get out of your comfort zone: If you want to improve in anything, you have to ask yourself and do things you do not usually do. Take that bold step and talk to that girl or boy; take that step and apply for that test. What does not kill you makes you stronger.
- Do not be afraid to fail: “Develop success from your failure”. This is a saying by Dale Carnegie, and it simply means that most of your success will come from your mistakes. If you fail you start over, this time knowing where you went wrong. That is an experience gained.
- Self-realization and meditation: It is always important to know who you are in all situations; being confident is also about knowing who you are and being proud of who you are. Take time to reflect on yourself and grow.
It is normal to be shy, timid or scared at a particular point in your life, but do not let this problem consume you. Stand up for yourself, hold your head up high and be the best version of yourself.
