How to Recharge a Prepaid Meter Online

Your method for recharging a prepaid meter depends on your preferred channel. Among the options commonly used by computer-savvy individuals are mobile apps and websites.

In contrast, others may employ the services of Point of Sale (POS) agents. Let’s delve into the two primary processes for recharging a prepaid meter online:

Go to your utility provider’s official website or mobile app

  1. Select the electricity distribution company you are registered with, i.e. (Ikeja Electric)
  2. Log into your account (if applicable) or create one.
  3. Select the “Prepaid Meter Recharge” or similar option name, meter number, phone number, email address, and amount.
  4. Enter your meter number and the amount you want to recharge.
  5. Make the payment using a preferred online payment method. A small transaction fee is charged for this service. You can pay with your wallet funds, a credit card, or a bank transfer. You will be redirected to a web-pay page where you can pay using your e-wallet or debit card. To pay with your card, fill in your card details and make the payment.
  6. Confirm the payment.
  7. Once you pay, you will receive a successful payment message at the top of the page. The quick teller will also send you an OTP to your phone as a safety measure.
  8. You will also receive your electricity token via SMS, email, API, and the order page. All you need to do is input the code into your pre-paid meter, and you are ready to go.

For recharge with mobile banking apps, follow the simple steps below:

  • Go to your bank’s official website. You can also use your smartphone to use your bank’s official mobile app. You could use a mobile banking app from a bank like UBA, GT Bank, Access Bank, First Bank, Zenith Bank, Union Bank, Unity Bank, FCMB, Polaris Bank, or another.
  • Log in to your account by providing your username and password. If you don’t have an online account with your bank, please create one right on the page.
  • Locate a menu primarily used for paying bills. You will find it on the menu tab.
  • Locate and choose utilities and select the type of utility (PHCN/light
  • When the “PHCN” page opens, choose the bill you want to pay (your electricity distribution company.)
  • Input all requested credentials: the amount you want to purchase, your meter number, and other vital details. Ensure that you cross-check your meter number. Please don’t make any mistakes here. If possible, you can first write it down on paper.
  • Choose a plan (prepaid or postpaid). You’ll then need to wait for the payments to process while entering your Transaction PIN
  • Please check your email address or phone message when you finish these steps. A message will be sent to you that your transaction has been successful.
  • Once completed, your token should arrive via SMS or email at the address you provided when registering. This meter token will be used to load your prepaid meter.
  • Go to your prepaid meter. Open the card’s door and insert your smart card. Next, enter the PIN code of the token you received. That’s it; you have just recharged your prepaid meter.
