How to Highlight and Contour Dark Skin

Highlighting and contouring on dark skin can help enhance your natural beauty and create stunning makeup looks.

How to Highlight and Contour Dark Skin

Here’s a step-by-step tip to help you highlight and contour your beautiful dark skin

 1. Identify Your Skin Tone and Type:

Determine your skin tone and undertone to determine the colours that will be best for your contour.

2. Prepare Your Skin:

If you’re a skincare enthusiast, you already have a skincare routine to prepare your skin.

  • Apply a moisturizer suitable for your skin type.
  • Use a makeup primer to create a smooth base for makeup application.

3. Apply Foundation:

  • Apply a foundation that matches your skin tone.
  • Blend the Foundation in circular motions to ensure even coverage. Pay attention to areas with uneven skin tone or imperfections.

4. Apply Concealer:

  • Apply Concealer to areas that need special coverage, such as under the eyes, blemishes, or dark spots.
  • Select a concealer 2-3 shades lighter than your natural skin tone.
  • Blend the Concealer

5. Setting Powder:

  • To set your makeup, apply a translucent setting powder.
  •   Brush off any excess powder for a natural finish.

6. Contouring:

  • Contour your facial angles.
  • Apply contouring products (e.g., bronzer or contour powder) that are darker than your original skin tone.
  • Focus on areas like under the cheekbones, along the sides of the nose, and the jawline (under the chin).
  • If you have very dark skin, skip contour and instead sculpt your face using a highlighter

7. Highlighting:

  • Highlight the areas you used Concealer on, such as under the eyes, the middle of the nose, the forehead, and the chin.
  • Use a highlighter at least 2-3 shades lighter than your skin colour.
  • Choose a highlighter with a shimmery finish to achieve a radiant look.
  • Highlight according to the shape of your face.

8. Blend and Set:

Blend all together and finish off with a setting and finishing powder.

Remember, practice makes perfect. Experiment with different products and techniques to find what works best for you.
