What is Permethrin?
This drug treats scabies caused by small insects known as mites that infest and irritate the skin.
Permethrin belongs to the pyrethrin drug class. Permethrin paralyses and kills mites and their eggs.
Side Effects of Permethrin
Possible side effects include itching, numbness, rash, redness or mild skin swelling, stinging or burning, and tingling sensation.
It is important to report any persistent or bothersome side effects to your doctor.
So if you use Permethrin and it turns out to be a form of burn on your skin, that implies that you are either allergic or there is a mistake in its usage.
Also, be sure to tell your physician prior notice if you are allergic to something.
What to Do After Using Permethrin
- Wear light clothing while using permethrin cream on your skin.
- While wearing the lotion, avoid letting your skin come into contact with anyone else’s.
- Do not take permethrin cream by mouth. Use on your skin only. Keep out of your mouth, nose, and eyes (it may burn).
- Wash your hands before and after usage.
- Wash all bedding, towels, and recently worn clothing in hot water, or have them dry cleaned.
Precautions on Permethrin Cream
Before taking Permethrin, notify your doctor or chemist if you are sensitive to it or have any other allergies.
This product may contain inactive chemicals, trigger allergic reactions, or cause other issues. Contact your chemist for additional information.
Before using this drug, tell your doctor or chemist about your medical history, particularly any skin infections or asthma.
Constant or aggressive scratching of the skin or scalp may result in a bacterial skin infection.
If you see worsening redness or pus, contact your doctor straight away.
If you are pregnant, tell your doctor before using this drug.
How Do You Apply Permethrin on Your Skin
This drug can only be used on the skin. Use this drug as soon as possible after it has been prescribed.
As prescribed, apply the medicine from your head to your feet’s soles, including under your nails and in skin creases such as those between your toes.
- Massage the cream into your skin.
- Don’t take more medication than prescribed. After 8-14 hours, wash off the cream with a shower or bath.
- Massage the cream into the skin from the head to the soles of the feet, paying special attention to creases in the skin, hands, feet, between fingers and toes, underarms, and groin.
- Avoid getting cream in your eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina. If the drug gets into your eyes, flush them with plenty of water.
Consult your doctor if the irritation persists.
How to Store Permethrin Cream
Store at room temperature. Keep any drugs away from children and pets.
Do not flush medications down the toilet unless specifically ordered or pour them down a drain.
Dispose of this product properly when it has expired or is no longer needed. Consult your chemist or the local garbage disposal provider.
