The decision to wear rings falls entirely in the hands of the couple. Men, unlike women, are not permitted to wear gold in Islam. While wearing wedding rings has become the norm in most Christian weddings with few to no rules, many rules guide the use of wedding rings in Muslim marriages.

Wedding rings are not required by faith; specific rules for Muslims if they wear them. Islamic teachings influence these rules and remind them of their faith;

  • Islam warns couples not to believe their wedding rings will save their marriage from harm or evil. Islam stresses that only Allah can save your marriage. Therefore, believing your rings will save your marriage is a shirk. (Blasphemy of equating something to Allah)
  • While women can wear their wedding rings on any finger of their choice, the men have only three options. It is either the little finger, thumb, or ring finger. Wedding rings are mostly worn on their little finger. This ensures that the ring does not impede any of their daily activities.
  • Islam teaches that couples must wear wedding rings with the best of intentions. It is not a jewelry you show off. Remember that you chose to wear it because you like it and as a symbol of your union. As a Muslim, you must remember not to be boastful. Humility is a virtue.

There are countless myths surrounding the wearing of wedding rings. There are all sorts of myths that reveal lousy luck based on certain conditions, and there are also good ones. However, of all the myths, the most popular and the most romantic of all would be the Egyptian myth.

The Egyptians believe the vein in your left fourth finger leads straight to the heart. Therefore, wearing your ring on that finger is a romantic symbol, declaring your loving intentions of eternal love and loyalty straight from the heart.

Wearing a wedding ring is a lovely romantic gesture anyone would love to partake in. As a Muslim, it is okay to wear a wedding ring as long as it is worn for the right reasons and while keeping in mind the necessary rules involved.
