- Green tea with high percentages of caffeine could induce jitteriness or nervousness in someone with low caffeine tolerance.
- It could alter with any other medications you are taking, causing even more severe problems.
- It could cause trouble sleeping.
- Green tea made with boiling water has many tannins that can lead to an upset stomach.

Green tea may not be safe for women, especially during pregnancy. It is best to limit green tea consumption, especially during the first trimester of pregnancy.
Green tea can decrease the absorption of folic acid when the baby’s neural tube is being developed.
Folic acid is important at that stage and must be optimum.
Besides the side effects mentioned above, green tea, taken in the usual proportions daily, 1-2 cups, should cause no side effects.
