How to Make Glow in the Dark Liquid
Creating glow-in-the-dark liquid can be a fun and creative project. You can create glow-in-the-dark liquid by mixing glow powder (phosphorescent pigment) with a transparent liquid medium, like paint, resin, or glue.
How to Make Glow in the Dark Liquid
Here are two safe methods to make glow-in-the-dark liquid at home.
Method 1: Using a Highlighter
1. Wear gloves to prevent the colour from getting on your hands.
2. Fill a clear container with hot water, such as a glass, bowl, or bottle. The more water, the less the glowing effect, so adjust it according to how bright you want the liquid to be.
3. Remove the ink tube from a highlighter pen and place it inside the water. It is advisable to use the yellow highlighter because it tends to produce a stronger glow when soaked in water.
You can experiment with different highlighter colours by first testing them on a piece of paper under UV light to see if they glow – if it glows under UV light, it most likely will after dissolution in water.
4. Allow the ink tube to soak in the water for several hours. Over time, the ink will dissipate from the tube, and the water will glow. For added effect, you can squeeze the ink tube to ensure all the colour is released.
5. To see the glow, turn off all the lights or draw the curtains to create darkness. You can illuminate the container with a flashlight or backlight if the glow is still insufficient. There, you glow in the dark liquid matching your highlighter colour.
Method 2: Using Fluorescent Paint for Multi-Coloured Glowing Water
- Purchase glow-in-the-dark or fluorescent paint in the colour you want your liquid to be. The glow-in-the-dark paint does not need backlight or light sources to glow, but the fluorescent paint does.
- Fill a clear container with hot water and add the desired quantity of paint you want to it. Ensure it is just the right amount, not too much or too small. Then, stir properly to ensure even distribution.
- Turn off the lights to witness the glow. When you are using fluorescent paint, turn on a backlight or torch. With glow-in-the-dark colour, you only need to follow the instructions on the pack to activate the glow.
These methods allow you to create your glow-in-the-dark liquid in various colours and intensities, providing a unique and visually appealing addition to your projects or experiments.
