How to Withdraw from Porn Addiction

Here are a few ways you can withdraw without relapsing

  •   Identify triggers and avoid them.
  • Avoid being alone by building a support network of friends or family. Volunteer and join clubs or spend more time with your family and friends.
  • Develop healthier habits and activities.

Exercise and eat well to improve your physical health and fill your time with healthier activities like new hobbies to stay busy and distract yourself.

Limit access to all the ways you access porn. If it is through magazines, avoid buying them. On your phone and laptop, limit access to them by installing app and site blockers or limitations to pornography. You can also install accountability apps.

  • Consider joining a support group.

Overcoming addiction to pornography often requires professional help, support groups, and lifestyle changes. Seek guidance from a therapist or counsellor and connect with people like you who have the same issues.

  • Get counselling/therapy.

Consider starting with online therapy to ease into the process, and if necessary, transition to in-person counselling, family therapy, or more intensive options like CBT.

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) helps you understand how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are connected to your porn addiction. You might need to be rehabilitated if your case is severe.

Various factors, including the severity, duration, and specific nature of the addiction, influence the path to overcoming porn addiction. Seek help, stay committed to your recovery journey, and be patient with yourself as you work towards a healthier, addiction-free life.
