The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) is a Pentecostal denomination founded in Yaba, Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria, in 1989, now with churches in several countries. English-speaking and non-English-speaking countries. It was founded by Dr. Daniel Kolawole Olukoya (DKO).

The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries began as a small prayer group of about twenty-five persons at the home of the General Overseer, Dr. Daniel K. Olukoya, in Yaba, Lagos, Nigeria, in July 1989.

It was then a gathering of people of like minds who were passionate about combative prayers. The fellowship metamorphosed into a full-fledged church in 1994.

The church’s name was given to the overseer: The website states that the name “Mountain of Fire & Miracles Ministries” was revealed to the overseer, DKO. He received it while praying. On April 24, 1994, the church held its first service as MFM.

The mountain of fire is also known for its optimum dedication to Music and sports, which will be touched upon in the preceding paragraphs.

    FOUNDER

The church’s General Overseer has a first-class honours degree in Microbiology from the University of Lagos and a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from the University of Reading, United Kingdom.

Like many leaders of the AICs and African Pentecostal churches in Nigeria, Dr. Olukoya did not attend any Seminary or school of Theology but began his ministry as a coordinator of a prayer fellowship which later metamorphosed into a full.

Soon after completing his Ph.D. in the United Kingdom and while working at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, Dr. Daniel Kolawole Olukoya (DKO) summoned a prayer meeting.

This was on a Wednesday in 1989. 24 brethren showed up at the meeting. The venue of that meeting was the living room of DKO.

From humble beginnings in the home of Olukoya, MFM has grown to over 300 churches within Nigeria and branches in African and Western countries. Those branches outside the African continent mainly cater to the African immigrant population.

Due to the explosive growth of the church in Nigeria, under the direction of the Lord, MFM evolved a strategy of a network of branches in every state capital, local government headquarters, senatorial district, and locality.

To this day and across the world, MFM branches spring up as one of the fastest-growing churches of this generation. International church branches started in London before spreading to the United States, Canada, the rest of Europe, the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia. On every continent, MFM is profoundly visible and greatly impactful.

Many publications on deliverance have been credited to Olukoya, such as the popular prayer book known as The Prayer Rain.

The Leadership Of The Mountain Of Fire And Miracle Ministry

MFM is headed by a General Overseer, who is also the main theologian of the church. He is assisted by Assistant General Overseers, helming specific departments.

    SOCIAL ACTIVITIES OF THE MFM

According to Olukoya, “Music and sports are veritable tools for youths to channel their energies to contribute their quota to nation-building all over the world,” further stating that the church’s music programs have empowered over 5,000 young people are music-inclined from different backgrounds and ages.

In his quest to take youths off the streets, the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries worldwide, Dr. Daniel Olukoya, has set up a sports department that will give youths of MFM worldwide the opportunity to horn their God-given talents.

In this stead, Olukoya has mandated the Sports Director, MFM Worldwide, Godwin Enakhena, to organize basketball, tennis, and athletics competitions.

In 2013 the MFM football team achieved a milestone when they got promoted to the elite division of the Nigerian Professional Football League. This marked the foray of the MFM football club into the national football scene.

The Doctrines and Beliefs Of The Mountain Of Fire And Miracle Ministry

MFM is a Christian church. According to the group’s literature, it is committed to “the Revival of Apostolic Signs, Holy Ghost fireworks, and the unlimited demonstration of the power of God to deliver to the uttermost.

” As the name would imply, the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries greatly emphasize wonders, miracles, and other Apostolic acts. MFM describes itself as “a do-it-yourself gospel ministry, where your hands are trained to wage war and your fingers to do battle.” This militant tone against spiritual wickedness is reflected throughout the teachings of MFM.

As with many Plain dress churches, all women must wear skirts and headcovers when attending MFM services in any location. Although prayers are loud and believed to be “spiritually violent,” it is noteworthy that the church preaches against physical violence, typically alluding to Paul’s teachings on Christian warfare.

The MFM doctrine stands against the annual ritual of celebration of Christmas. The General Overseer, during teaching, alludes that the celebration is unbiblical, as there is no such word in the Bible, and neither did the Bible state that Christ was born on December 25.

    HEADQUARTERS Of MFM

In the formative year of the church, the prayer group was offered and purchased an abandoned slum located at 13 Olasimbo Street, Onike, Yaba.

It was a large piece of land near the second gate of the University of Lagos. It has now been transformed into the International Headquarters of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries.

MFM owns a large land along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway called Prayer City. Among structures located within the camp is an auditorium capable of holding 100,000 members during special occasions.
