Urine is a liquid by-product of metabolism in humans and in many other animals. Urine cycles from the kidneys through the urethras to the urinary bladder. Urination results in urine being excreted from the body through the urethra.

The urine our body produces is filtered by the kidney. It filters wastes and extra water from your blood.

However, holding your urine can be a dangerous activity to embark on, although sometimes it is something you cannot escape.

Holding in your urine is not totally harmful as long as it is for a few minutes until you get to the bathroom, but if you wait too long, the effects can be disastrous.

Holding your urine for too long can cause;

  • Weakened bladder.
  • Urinary tract infections.
  • It can lead to kidney damage.
  • It can lead to bladder rupture.

Holding in vast amounts of urine for an extended period of time also endangers your body to potentially harmful bacteria, which can increase your chances of getting a urinary tract infection (UTI), or bladder infection, etc.

The next time you feel the urge to empty your bladder, remember the reason behind it isn’t as simple as your bladder filling up with liquid. It’s actually a complex process involving many muscles, organs, and nerves that work together to tell you that it’s time to go.

There are just a lot of things to lose with withholding your urine, therefore it is advised not to play with your urine time as long as there is a clean restroom in sight.
