The dream of many women is to become mothers, to carry their own babies, and watch them grow. But many women also have career dreams, dreams of the board room, speeches, and of work that adds value to the world around them.
But it’s not always easy balancing the two especially when priority has been given to the former and there is now a family to take care of.
It’s hard for this not to come off as a kind of cautionary tale. Because, I am sure there are many women out there in similar situations, who have been through the same but have not yet admitted to or expressed their feelings of how hard it is to be a woman in today’s world.
This is what you need to know: The world has evolved so much that gender-specific roles are now a thing of the past.
When the world wars happened, men went to war, and women were left behind to step up and handle both the roles of men and women in a family and in this era having to ask a woman to choose between career and family is definitely a step backwards.
Now the 21st-century media has pushed the narrative of the “girl boss” and has given women the idea that they can do anything. But, may not all be at once.
Not every woman gets to be the amazing mother and awesome career woman at the same time and you even don’t have to look too far to see this
One of the more empathetic reasons for this is that either career or family tends to get less attention and changing priorities equal a sinking ship.
Leaving work a little early sometimes because the babysitter cancelled, or missing a school function because of an urgent meeting at work.
Every parent would love to see their children’s first steps, pick them up for school, be there to watch them sleep, and be part of their growth. But, these aren’t possible with a busy career in today’s world.
So how about I postulate another solution Men. It’s easy to see the other gender as opposites or as people who don’t understand and have no empathy for the plights of women and this is mostly true, emphasis on the word mostly.
Marriage and Life have one thing in common in the sense that we can’t go through them without partners. If women have stepped up and become providers in this century then men can do better in caring any way they can.
This is one of the trusted ways in which a work and family life can be balanced; will there be some overlaps and fighting along the way? YES!!
But, this guarantees that we don’t get to miss the important moments and still have the career we have dreamed of and may not be how the career was planned out to be but sacrifices are made.
So no matter what the media says, a true girl boss is one who has a support system that helps her to truly manage every part of her life and she’s someone who understands that sacrifices will be made along the way.
