You get paid.

You pay your bills.

You buy what you need.

You may even earn a salary that sounds pretty good when you tell someone else about it.

So why do you still feel broke?

Sometimes the problem isn’t that you don’t earn enough.

It’s that life has become expensive enough to consume almost everything you earn.

Your money has more responsibilities now

When you were younger, your salary might have been mostly about you.

Now there may be rent or a mortgage, childcare, transport, food, insurance, family responsibilities and savings to think about.

And for many women, there is another layer:

helping other people.

A parent needs something.

A sibling needs help.

Your child needs something unexpected.

Someone back home sends a message.

You want to help because you care.

But every “small” amount eventually adds up.

Then there is the pressure to look like you’re doing well

This can be particularly difficult.

You don’t want people thinking you’re struggling.

So you still go out occasionally.

You buy nice clothes.

You have your hair done.

You take holidays when you can.

You post the nice moments.

And there is nothing wrong with enjoying your money.

But if you constantly spend to maintain an image of being comfortable, you can end up feeling financially trapped.

You don’t have to look rich to be doing well.

Sometimes you need a reality check

Take a proper look at where your money is actually going.

Not what you think you’re spending.

What you’re really spending.

Your subscriptions.

Takeaways.

Transport.

Online shopping.

Small daily purchases.

Family support.

Interest on debt.

Those little expenses can be surprisingly powerful.

You may discover that you don’t need to completely change your lifestyle.

You simply need to understand it.

And don’t make yourself miserable trying to save

Saving is important.

But you shouldn’t feel guilty every time you spend money on something that makes you happy.

You are allowed to enjoy your life.

The goal isn’t to become the woman who has £20,000 sitting in the bank but is afraid to buy herself lunch.

It’s about finding a balance where you can enjoy today while still preparing for tomorrow.

You are not failing

If you’re earning, paying your bills, supporting your family and trying to save something for the future, you’re doing a lot.

Don’t compare your bank account with someone’s Instagram.

You don’t know what they earn.

You don’t know what they owe.

You don’t know who is helping them.

And you definitely don’t know what’s happening behind the picture.

Sometimes financial progress looks incredibly boring.

Paying off debt.

Building savings.

Saying no to things you can’t afford.

Starting again after a difficult year.

That’s progress too.

Because being financially comfortable isn’t always about having more money.

Sometimes it’s simply reaching the point where your money stops controlling your peace.
