There is a strange kind of loneliness that comes with being the woman everyone depends on.

Your phone is always ringing.

Someone needs advice. Someone needs help. Someone wants you to sort something out. Your children need you. Your family calls. Your friends come to you when life is falling apart.

And most of the time, you show up.

You listen. You help. You remember things other people forget. You are the one who checks in, sends the message, makes the call and asks, “Are you okay?”

People know they can depend on you.

But sometimes, quietly, you wonder:

Who can I depend on?

That is the part nobody really talks about.

Being needed is not the same as being cared for

People can love you and still become so used to your strength that they forget you need support too.

You have always managed somehow.

You are the one who says, “Don’t worry, I’ll sort it.”

So eventually, people start believing that you can handle everything.

And maybe you can.

But that doesn’t mean you always want to.

Sometimes you don’t want to be the one with the answer.

Sometimes you don’t want to be strong.

Sometimes you want somebody else to notice that you’re tired before you have to explain it.

You become everyone’s safe place

Your friend calls when her relationship is in trouble.

Your family calls when there is a problem.

At work, people know you will get things done.

At home, everyone expects you to remember what needs remembering.

And you do.

But after everybody has gone back to their lives, you are left with your own thoughts.

The things you’re worried about.

The bills.

The relationship problems you haven’t talked about.

The stress.

The uncertainty about the future.

And sometimes, the loneliness is not about having nobody around you.

It’s about feeling like nobody really knows how you are.

Because you have become so good at saying, “I’m fine.”

Strong women get tired too

Being strong doesn’t mean you don’t struggle.

It doesn’t mean you don’t cry.

It doesn’t mean you don’t sometimes wish someone would take something off your plate and simply say:

“I’ve got this one. You rest.”

You can be independent and still need help.

You can be the person everyone depends on and still have days when you don’t know what to do.

There is nothing weak about that.

Maybe it’s time to let someone in

If everyone thinks you’re okay, it may be because you’ve never told them otherwise.

And yes, asking for help can feel uncomfortable, especially when you’re used to being the helper.

But you don’t have to wait until you completely break down.

Tell someone you trust when things are getting too heavy.

Say, “I’m struggling a bit.”

Say, “I actually need some help.”

Say, “I can’t take this on right now.”

You don’t have to carry everything simply because people know you are capable of carrying it.

To the woman everyone depends on

You are allowed to say no.

You are allowed to rest.

You are allowed to have a bad day without pretending everything is fine.

And you are allowed to need people too.

Being dependable is a beautiful thing.

But you deserve relationships where you are valued for more than what you can do for everyone else.

Sometimes, you don’t need to be the strong one.

Sometimes, you just need someone to ask:

“How are you really doing?”
